New OU School of Drama Director Named
Seth Gordon, a nationally recognized stage director and producer of new plays, has been named as director of the Helmerich School of Drama at the University of Oklahoma.
A passionate educator, Gordon has taught stage directing, dramaturgy and audition techniques, and he has been invited to lead master classes in directing and acting at Webster University, Fairmount Performing Arts Conservatory, Cleveland Play House, Carnegie Mellon University, Pratt Institute and New York University.
Libraries Offer Fun for All Ages
August wraps up summer vacation for many area students, but there still are a few summer morning and afternoon opportunities to experience the library before heading back to school.
Multiple craft programs dot the schedule during the first full week of August, beginning with “Chalk Bombs” at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 6, at the Norman East library. Ages 7 to 12 will learn how to make their own chalk bombs to use as decorations.
Norman West, 300 Norman Center Court, presents “Printmaking for Teens/Tweens” at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 7. It’s a chance for budding artists ages 10 to 18 to learn a new skill.
Norman West also hosts DIY Fluffy Slime at 3 p.m. Friday, Aug. 9. The program, for ages 7 to 12, mixes science and fun to create slime using basic household items.
Norman East, 3051 E. Alameda St., will host numerous programs in conjunction with the Smithsonian’s Water/Ways Exhibit, on display at the library through Aug. 18.

Royal Bavaria Announces Band Lineup
Each Thursday, Friday and Saturday through August, Royal Bavaria will feature live music, as well as the best authentic German food and brew available in the state, in its beergarten.
Bands featured this month are: Hunter Thomas, Aug. 1, John the Franklin, Aug. 2, and Kenneth Rich, Aug. 3; Greg Singleton, Aug. 8, Tim Brauer, Aug. 9, and Heartbreak Rodeo, Aug. 10; Shawn Proffitt, Aug. 15, Raina Cobb and Ben Brock, Aug. 16, and Redgrass String Band, Aug. 17; Route 66, Aug. 22, and Heartbreak Rodo, Aug. 23; and Kenneth Rich, Aug. 30. The bands that will be performing Aug. 24 and 31 are to be determined.
