Libraries Set Annual Commemoration of Black History Month

The annual commemoration of Black History Month in Norman’s public libraries returns in February.

The African-American Read-In moves to Norman East at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 10. Theme for this year’s event is “Inventions and Inventors in Black” and will celebrate the rich history of African-American literature.

Norman West will host a concert from Adam and Kizzie at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 17. The Oklahoma City-based duo have performed in many past library events and throughout the country.

Capping the month’s activities is the 15th annual Crowns Tea, set for 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 24, at Norman Central. It will include readings from the book, a tea service and a performance from the OU Gospel Choir.

There’s no charge for the Crowns Tea, but a ticket is required; they will be available at the African-American Read-In; after that, they can be picked up while supplies last at any of the three Norman libraries.

The programs are made possible by a grant from the Norman Arts Council and support of the Friends of the Norman Libraries.
