Young or old, married or single, Norman offers plenty of options for hanging with your bros.
The activities and environments may have changed slightly over the years, but the tradition of a regular “guys’ night” is still going strong for males young and old. And one of the good things about living in a college town like Norman is knowing you and your buddies have a lot of options available, both trendy and time honored. Whether it’s the good old-fashioned sports bars, the newer pubs with their craft beers, the increasingly popular cigar bars, or a whole spectrum of live music venues, there’s something in Norman to cater to all tastes, ages and temperaments. Here are a few of our favorites.
Looking for a good steak and an upscale atmosphere? Scratch Kitchen & Cocktails, 132 W. Main, offers the best in fine dining and exotic cocktails, along with a selection of over 125 types of whiskey, served in an eclectic atmosphere featuring modern art. Happy hours with $5 whiskey-based Old-Fashioned and Manhattans are a big hit with the guys, who can also chow on popular items like pulled pork nachos. Tiki Tuesdays feature a different exotic cocktail weekly, and a weekend brunch also offers live music.
Whether you’re a music lover, biker, family man or all three, you’ll find something to love at Hollywood Corners. The historic gasoline station/general store at 4712 N. Porter has been transformed into one of the coolest hangouts in Oklahoma. The exterior opens into a rustic restaurant/bar, with an open-air patio and concert stage in back. Of special interest are Thursday hot rod nights, where guys can gather to admire each other’s vehicles. Biker nights are held the first and third Wednesday of each month.
Equal parts cigar bar, adult hangout and family restaurant, Pub W offers a great place to gather with the guys for signature craft cocktails and beers. Popular with young professionals, the modern American pub offers traditional fare, along with “Scotch and Cigar” dinners, Wednesday Wine Nights and Thursday Pint Nights, where you can sample from an ever-changing roster of more than 100 beers, most locally crafted. Located at 3720 W. Robinson, inside Brookhaven Village, Pub W also features big-screen televisions, pool tables and video games.
The first thing you’ll get at O’Connell’s Irish Pub & Grille is a “heapin’ helpin’” of good old Sooner Spirit. This iconic Norman establishment has long been a popular guy hangout/watering hole, especially for fans of Sooner athletics. With 14 big-screen televisions and a convenient Campus Corner location, 769 Asp Ave., O’Connell’s is a great place to knock back a beer with fellow OU fans, enjoy outstanding pub fare, exercise your pipes during Wednesday’s karaoke night, or challenge your brain on Thursday’s trivia nights.
