This Year Featuring a Whiskey Tasting
Looking for something to do the weekend of June 9? Look no further: Le Tour De Vin is hosting its annual event supporting a local charity that evening at the Marriot Conference Center at NCED. Beginning at 6:30 p.m., Le Tour De Vin hosts a variety of local fares offering samples of their unique cuisine (for listing, visit LeTourDeVin.com), and live music by the jazz and blues band The Fitzgeralds.
Two auctions help fund the beneficiary. The silent auction, which kicks off the evening, is done by smartphone or iPad, allowing the bidder freedom to enjoy the event without having to keep track of a paper bidding sheet. Each bidder will be notified if their bid is surpassed and asked if s/he would like to make a counter-offer. Winning bids will be notified via text.
The second event is the live auction beginning at 8:30 p.m. “This is often our big moneymaker,” says Joe Gil, executive director, noting that the auction will feature 20-25 items ranging from an African Safari trip to artwork by local artist Tom Kenney, to wine dinners and Sooner Sports memorabilia.
Since 2003, Le Tour De Vin has generated a net income of $1,262,042. What began as the brainchild of Norman’s Cross Timbers Rotary Club and the Cleveland County Chapter of the American Red Cross, the event has grown in size and notoriety and is one of the largest charitable events in Oklahoma of its kind. Currently, the event boasts four Rotary clubs, Norman and Sooner, in addition to the original, Cross Timbers, with the newest club Legacy. Now in its 16th year, the event requires over 250 volunteers, many of them members of the local Rotary clubs, as well as Oklahoma City-based sponsor Republic National Distributing Co.
This year’s beneficiary is Full Circle Adult Day Center Inc. (FullCircleok.org)
