Find Your Inspiration 4

at the 2017 Oklahoma
Designer Show House

Interior designers as well as others looking for design inspiration won’t want to miss the third annual Oklahoma Designer Show House, scheduled from noon to 7 p.m. Sept. 8 through 17. This year’s show house is located at 13300 Hickory Hills Road in Arcadia, Oklahoma.

The 7,000-square-foot estate, situated on 40 acres of land, is located just east of Edmond off historic Route 66. Among the three-story home’s features are a beautiful Porte corchere front entry and an elevator.

Gia Rose, lead interior designer and showroom manager of Designer’s Market, which will be decorating two spaces this year, said the event is the brainchild of design firm Roost Oklahoma owner Andrea Meister.

“Three years ago, she came to me with her idea for a show home event that showcased the talents and artistry of interior design in Oklahoma without any aesthetic restrictions to hinder the designer’s works, such as cost, social status or tenure,” Rose recalled.

“It’s a real celebration of the craft, and a place where designers can freely express themselves while enjoying the comradery of fellow designers. Being an interior designer myself, I loved the idea and agreed to help,” Rose said.

The event quickly picked up steam. The first year, the show house attracted over 1,000 visitors; that number more than doubled in the second year. This year, Rose said, they are expecting a turnout of more than 5,000.

“We see many fellow designers coming out to support us and to get inspired, as well as members of the public looking for decorating ideas and the latest products and furnishings,” Rose said, noting that the products and furnishings are for sale and available for pick-up after the event.

The event allows members of the public an opportunity to chat with designers, Rose said, adding that they also may cast their vote for their favorite room design.

Show house organizers have worked to make the event one the entire family will enjoy, and features games, entertainment, art and food trucks, plus a shopping area in the estate’s stables in which accessories will be showcased from many of Oklahoma City’s boutiques.

The stables are available evenings for private or company parties as well.

Rose said Designer’s Market is going “all out” with family room/den and outdoor living area with pool, where the feel will be “casual international,” drawing inspiration from Indonesian elements and motifs.

“These are multipurpose spaces intended for all ages and genders, places where family and friends can relax, play, socialize and feel comfortable doing so,” she said.

“We’re adding some playful wall effects in the family room, like decorative paint by a local, environmentally friendly master painter, modern paper and even an interactive wall, which is very on trend right now.” The furnishings likewise will be casual and comfortable to promote family socializing.

The focal point of the space will be a ceiling mural surrounding a unique light fixture painted by a local artist and comic book writer/illustrator.

For the outdoor living space, the Designer’s Market team has worked to bring the indoors out and to make it an ideal family gathering space.

“The space will be playfully colorful and internationally inspired, as well as promoting a sustainable environment,” Rose said, adding that the space will showcase a local college student’s custom-designed, floating bar made of repurposed products.

“And we have designed a living wall that is a trend gaining in popularity in the United States,” Rose noted, adding that they continued with their environmentally friendly theme, along with a designed queen-size bed using discarded palettes for poolside lounging.”
