Battling Pain or Pudge?

These Two New Treatments
May Have Your Answer

Two of the latest treatments for chronic pain and getting rid of stubborn fat are proving to be big hits for clients at AlignOK Chiropractic Wellness, and patients are reaping huge benefits from both.

Recently approved by the FDA, the first treatment is known as pressure wave therapy, It’s a highly successful new technology that provides non-invasive, drug-free treatment for both acute and chronic pain, said Dr. Kyle Brotherton, chiropractor and AlignOK owner. The treatment can be used for pain in any of the body’s joints, along with the back, neck, shoulders and hamstrings. It’s designed to alleviate pain stemming from almost any type of cause, whether it be injuries, sport-related issues, scar tissue, stress fractures or disease.

Pressure wave therapy works by externally applying high-energy sound wave pulses to the area where pain is being felt, while the patient is lying down. The technology accelerates the healing process by stimulating the metabolism and enhancing blood circulation, which in turn helps regenerate damaged tissue and enhance bone healing. Each treatment typically runs about 15 minutes, and the average patient will undergo four to six treatments to resolve their pain.

“I use it to treat conditions like plantar fasciitis, tennis elbow and a wide range of sports injuries,” said Brotherton, whose general chiropractic practice involves quite a bit of foot care. “I have over a 95 percent success rate with plantar fasciitis in particular,” he said. “We have been doing this since September of last year, and it is really amazing. The effects are felt after the first one to two treatments, and by the end, most people experience at least a 50 percent improvement. I’ve even had one patient who had suffered for 20 years and tried all sorts of things, and after six treatments with the pressure wave therapy is pain-free.”

In May of this year, Brotherton also began offering the newest incarnation of Zerona body slimming laser treatment to his patients. Originally approved in 2009 to reduce pain after breast augmentation surgery and liposuction, the low-energy Zerona laser can now be used to stimulate and liquefy the contents of fat cells. This liquefied fat moves into the space between the cells (clinically known as the interstitial area), where it is then removed by the body’s lymphatic system. It’s particularly effective on the waist, hips and thighs, and studies show the average patient loses 3.65 inches from these areas in as little as two weeks.

Like pressure wave therapy, there is no down time; patients simply lie comfortably through a 40-minute treatment. Patients typically undergo six treatments over a span of two weeks–occasionally longer–with results that are visible from the first session, Brotherton said.

“Everyone we have treated who has done it has loved it,” he said. “We’ve had people who have undergone cool sculpting or liposuction, which work, but are painful. A huge advantage of Zerona is that it’s not painful or invasive, and there is no down time. You can have a treatment, get up and go right back to work.”
