Stepping Up to the Barre 5

One Woman’s Journey, Part 2

I have never seen as many strong, inspiring women gathered in one place than I have in the Norman Pure Barre. Think that you don’t fit that description? Neither did I! That’s what makes Pure Barre so special. The workout isn’t about turning you into a strong woman (or man!), it’s about showing you that you already are.

I started my last column with a confession, so I figure I should do the same here. Before I started going to Pure Barre, my lifestyle was far from healthy–I’m talking fast food, Netflix marathons and flaking on plans with my friends and family because I never had the energy to go out. I knew that I needed to make some serious changes, but I never seemed to have the motivation to actually follow through–until I started Pure Barre.

There is a difference between forcing yourself to get your heart rate up for X amount of minutes, X days a week and actually, legitimately looking forward to working out, and that difference means everything. That’s what makes Pure Barre so easy to stick with, and that’s why it has become such an important part of my life.

Four months in, I’ve noticed the effects of Pure Barre spilling out into all areas of my life, and I couldn’t be happier. The constant encouragement from the wonderful instructors (and classmates) has me determined to make each class better than the last. It’s so much easier to pass on that midnight snack when I know that I have a class in the morning, and I find that I can’t sit down and watch television without getting up every few minutes to exercise or stretch. When it’s so easy to see progress, my motivation goes through the roof.

It only took a couple of weeks for me to start seeing results from the Pure Barre workout. When you’re constantly pushing your limits, it’s easy to see when they expand farther and farther from where you started. And with workouts designed to be low-impact and high-intensity, I can see myself growing stronger without having to worry about pushing myself too far and getting injured (which is nice for a serious workout newbie like myself).

Pure Barre is a 55-minute workout that uses small, isometric movements to work specific muscle groups to fatigue, and believe me when I say that you will start noticing a newfound strength in muscles that you didn’t even know you had! After working out each muscle group, you stretch, which is an important step in maintaining your strength, and keeping you lean and toned.

This combination of muscle work and stretching has increased my flexibility by leaps and bounds. I have never been especially flexible, even as a child, so becoming more limber has been very fun for me. I still have a long way to go, but I am probably more flexible now than I have ever been, and I’m excited to continue the process.

WITH FUN MONTHLY

A FAMILY THAT CHEERS ON EACH OTHER’S
SUCCESSES. PURE BARRE IS CHALLENGING, NO
MATTER WHAT LEVEL OF FITNESS YOU’RE AT, AND IT HELPS TO HAVE FRIENDS WHO ARE SWEATING ALONGSIDE YOU, EAGER TO CATCH UP WITH YOU AFTER THE CLASS IS OVER.

When I started Pure Barre, I was probably in the worst shape of my life, and I had a lot of trouble keeping up in class, but I never felt anything other than supported and inspired. Each day I left feeling tired, but happy, and determined to continue on this journey of self-improvement.

The instructors and classmates that I had during my first few classes made sure that I felt like I was instantly a part of the Pure Barre community, and I can’t thank them enough for that.

That’s why Pure Barre is so important to me. Yeah, I’m excited about the changes in my muscles, and about my increased flexibility, but it’s the difference in confidence and energy levels that has me shouting form the rooftops about how much I love this workout program.

But don’t take my word for it! Right now, you can try Pure Barre for free for a week. Just call the studio, or drop by to find out more. Hope to see you there!
